Ace lands £10k car at captains’ charity day
A former captain of the Kent County Ladies Golf Association won a £10,000 car with a hole-in-one at Rochester & Cobham Park’s captains’ charity day.
Jo Beslee, also a former captain of the club, struck her tee shot 171 yards at the eighth hole to win a Vauxhall Corsa supplied by local dealer WJ King Group.
Rochester & Cobham Park’s captain Keith Hills decided he’d like to offer a car up for a hole-in-one prize and prepared for the unbelievable happening by contacting Worldwide Hole ‘N One which provided hole-in-one insurance ... lucky for him that he did, for the unbelievable DID happen.
The penultimate group of the day, comprising four ladies, reached the eighth hole to find their red tee had been moved back from the normal 144 yards to 171 yards.
After a light-hearted moan at the club secretary, who happened to be in the fourball behind, they took their shots. When they arrived at the elevated green, Beslee asked one of the adjudicators if her ball had managed to reach the green.
“Well,” came the response, “better than that, it’s in the hole!”
Captain Hills, alongside lady captain Mary James, organised the day to support the Stroke Association and they raised more than £4,500, with 144 members enjoying the golf and hospitality.
