H1 Head Hack Pete Richardson recently travelled to Spain to experience one of Europe’s finest golf courses. And Pete took with him James Didgiunaitis who has recently started playing golf after a 25-year break. James and Pete have played a couple of rounds together, but James was super-hyped for this one. How did they get on and what did they make of Finca Cortesin?
New H1 Hack reviewer James said:
“If Carlsberg did Golf Courses, then Finca………….
Having returned to Golf over the last 12 months, after a 25-year absence from the game, I honestly didn’t think that I would be playing on or have the ability to play on one of the best golf courses in Europe.
I did, on Thursday 31st January 2019 and had the most fantastic golf day of my life!
I could talk about any or all of the following……….
- The service on arrival
- The awesome reception staff
- The Caddy Master and his team
- The Driving Range – as good as quite a few golf courses out there
- The Buggy’s with their outstanding GPS and yardage system
- The Fruit and Soup brought to you at holes 6 & 12 to keep your energy levels up
- The Bar Staff at the end of the round in the clubhouse.
But I’m not going to as it is all about the golf………….
- Pristine fairways and immaculately manicured greens.
- Sea and Mountain views on every hole.
- Challenging but also very fair holes that encourage you to play and reward effort.
- Fantastic Par 3’s for the adventurous to take them on.
Yes, the course comes with a price tag but Finca is more than just a golf course. It is like a 5-star hotel experience which of course is not simply about your room or your suite. It’s about the time spent there from check in to check out and I could not recommend Finca Cortesin higher if you would like an unforgettable day at one of Europe’s best golf resorts.
As the goddess Nike says on a daily basis – Just Do It!!!!!!!!”
“The hospitality, welcome and quality of service in the first five minutes at Finca set the tone for a more than memorable day.
The clubhouse drips with class and quality. The driving range is stunning and all the more fun hitting downhill and downwind.
If you ever have the pleasure of standing on the driving range look across to the 14th tee in the far distance. It’s said that Lee Westwood drove that green one famous day at a Volvo World Matchplay championship.
Miles….miles and miles and miles and with that story in mind we headed out with more stories of distance ringing in our ears. “It’s very long here,” advised one of the uber-helpful caddy staff. “And windy today!”
The weather was unusually inclement, missly and drissly and windy – but who cares when a course is presented so magnificently and designed so beautifully.
The greens are verging on perfection and the fairway conditioning immaculate.
It’s playable and fair as James will attest after chipping in on the first from 30m – not bad for a relative newcomer. I think that made the round.
No 1 is a “very, very, very easy” Par 4 according to James. The Par 3 2nd was more to my taste at 173m off the yellows and into to wind.
The Par 3’s are tough – have a look at No 6 on the Finca website. The 5s are scoring holes – and there are 5 of them!!
You’ll probably par the Par 5 18th and just like us wish you go out and play it again and again.
It really is a very special golf course and next time we will be back to experience the Michelin-starred restaurant as well. Could it get any better than that?
Pete and James travelled on their own with EasyJet via Gibraltar.
For a special deal to visit Finca Cortesin email Pete via and he’ll see what he can do.
