Hole 16 at The Springs plays longer than it is and I’ve always struggled to score well on this hole. It was into wind on a grey winters day in England. I decided to club up to make sure I made it over the water hazard and did my upmost to keep it straight, avoiding the bunker on the left and trees on the right. I hit my hybrid with a 3/4 swing, it stayed quite low & I was willing it to clear the water. The ball hit the slope on the front of green, bounced once & rolled up towards flag. I thought that’s very close and lost sight of my ball. My opponent then took his shot, hit it into the rough left of the green. We both walked up to see where our balls were & it dawned on me that I couldn’t see my ball on the green. We both ran over to the hole and my ball was there, in the hole! We both started cheering and hugged it out on the 16th hole. My first ever hole in one and I’ve been playing 18 months. Amazing!
